Experience

I have substantial experience teaching and mentoring students in Biology. College-level teaching experience AP Biology 5/5 In 2014 became employed as a Ph.D. Research and Development (R&D) Scientist working for a global agriculture company. In my day job I spend a considerable time interacting, teaching and presenting to my multi-cultural colleagues across the globe via virtual means. Prior to my role as a R&D Scientist, I was an agriculture and biology professor and teaching assistant at Southern Illinois University Carbondale for a senior-level college course offered to Plant Biology and Plant and Soil Science majors in the College of Biology and the College of Agriculture, respectively. Additionally while a PhD student trained 12 undergraduates and research technicians on a wide range of techniques, ranging from how to extract DNA from a weed species to how to plant corn in the field. In my current role as a R&D Scientist I have to train new sales representatives, farmers, and other scientists on basic and complex aspects of plant physiology, genetics, and biochemistry. All together, the knowledge gained from my PhD, combined with my practical experience teaching and in Industry has given me the ability to be a highly effective biological tutor because I have the applied experience to relate book knowledge to real life situations.

Hobbies

Farming and agriculture are my greatest interests, and it's what drove me to pursue a degree in Plant Biology. I decided to pursue a PhD because I love to apply science to practical problems. Presently, this is what I do on a daily basis in my job: I use biology to help farmers overcome challenges by finding innovative solutions through science. Ultimately, this is the approach I take when tutoring, help students understand biology and chemistry by relating topics to their everyday life.
